Visual design is a creative process – most often involving a client and a designer and usually completed in conjunction with producers of form (i.e., printers, programmers, signmakers, etc.) – undertaken in order to convey a specific message (or messages) to a targeted audience. The term “graphic design” can also refer to a number of artistic and professional disciplines that focus on visual communication and presentation. The field as a whole is also often referred to as Visual Communication or Communication Design. Various methods are used to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated.

Common uses of graphic design include identity (logos and branding), web sites, publications (magazines, newspapers, and books), advertisements and product packaging. For example, a product package might include a logo or other artwork, organized text and pure design elements such as shapes and color which unify the piece. Composition is one of the most important features of graphic design, especially when using pre-existing materials or diverse elements.

Getting a Grip on Visual Design

When people are indulging in visual design, there is a tendency to assume that they know it all. In most cases, people ignore some of the simple basics and they end up creating less than attractive results. For you to be able to come out with the right results there are some simple tips you need to grasp. The first thing you need to do is be more observant. For any form of art, being observant is very important because it gives you the chance to actually take notice of all the little bits and pieces that are otherwise important for the complete look. Being observant is very important because it will give you a chance to notice all the different changes that must be made to whatever you are designing.
Visual design is all about accuracy and preciseness. If you are going to design anything, you need to set aside all other things. You want to make sure that your mind is focused on only one thing so that you do not have to do too much thinking. Oftentimes when the mind is focused on too many things at once, one ends up having to think too much just so they can come up with some good designing concepts. However if your mind is cleared of everything else, you will simply have just the design to think about and nothing else.
Patience is a very important virtue when dealing with visual design. Sometimes, you have to spend longer time just attaining a specific look that you want. It is totally worth it! Never rush anything. Even if you have to take longer time analyzing something so you can be able to design it well, take as much time as you need. At the end of the day, creativity can never be rushed. Take your time and make sure you are calm and relaxed when coming up with your designs.

The world of web design

Web design is a collection of different skills used together to create and maintain websites. To build a successful website that can handle large volumes of traffic while still reacting responsively, web designers have to look at many different aspects of the site. Will the website be getting many mobile users? Will the design be able to reflow into a suitable, non-broken layout? Is the website future proof? These are aspects of web design that many programmers and artists are focused on today. With the explosion of smartphones, tablets and mobile computers it is even more important today than it was 2 years ago. New technologies like HTML5, Googles SPDY and WebM will help make the Internet a faster and more beautiful thing. But how is a web designer supposed to keep up with all of these emerging technologies?

The best thing to do is to create a website that uses the latest tech so that it will last a long while before it needs a major update.
Build the website with SEO in mind at the start. This means that you can maximize the traffic the website receives and you don’t have to edit and change the websites design after you have finished making it look pretty. It is more important to have a website that is search engine friendly rather than one that looks pretty but doesn’t attract any people!

Make sure that the website can adjust to different screen sizes. From underpowered Android phones with a 320×160 resolution all the way up to 2048×1536 of the latest iPads and MacBook Pros. There are many WordPress themes that are designed to scale to just about every screen size. These can save you a lot of time and effort as most of the intricate programming and web design is already done for you.
